smoking or non smoking rooms when you stay at a hotel? does it matter? does it determine what hotel you stay at?

i'm just asking because i work at a hotel that is non-smoking and charges a $250 smoking fee for smoking in our rooms.

We always get a smoking room. But if they were going to charge me that much more then I would just get a non smoking and go outside!!! =) Or if there was another nice hotel down the road I would see what they had to offer first. =D

Always get a smoking room when we travel w/o kids, but with kids, non-smoking only. I definitely make sure that the hotel has specific designated rooms so I don't get charged the extra fee. I also make sure the windows can open b/c my hubby is a non-smoker. BTW, don't smoke in my house so it is 'fun' to be able to smoke inside, esp. here in Ohio where you cannot smoke inside any building, bar, or restaurant.

I am a smoker, but I would get a non smoking room. More than likely my 2 boys would be with me and I don't smoke in the same room as them.

If there's a charge for smoking, I don't need a smoking room that bad-(wether it's an optional choice or "fee for smoking in a non-smoking room"), I'll just smoke outside & just find the cheapest room possible-a room is a room as long as it's not nasty & too expensive.

Yes definately even though I smoke I would always choose a non smoking room and smoke outside - the smoking rooms reek. There was a recent case where someone smoked in a non smoking room and they were sued for over a $1000 US, I can't find the link though.

I stay in non-smoking rooms and smoke outside. Heck I have to smoke outside everywhere else anyway. The smoking rooms do smell bad.

if you are a non smoker it does matter. Smoke sticks to the walls & curtains etc & it stinks. You dont really notice it if you are a smoker but hotels dont wash walls or curtains after each stay, so it can build up over time & leaves a horrible smell. (reformed smoker talking here!!!)
It matters to some, depends on personal prefs.
It doesn't determine where I stay because my hubby still smokes~!

I'm a smoker so i would choose a smoking room, i wouldn't pay 250.00 for some fee though so i imagine no smokers ever come to your hotel, i can only imagine how much more business they would get without an outrages fee like that.
