I called animal control and they told me that I would have to trap them myself and then they could remove them from my yards.

Unfortunately that is true. Animal control will only remove the animal and not trap it. There may be a local trapper in you district or you may have to purchase or rent some live traps. I would start at your local agriculture and feed store and see if they have any ideas about who you can contact or traps. I don't know where you are, but if you have an Atwoods I would look there as well.

a good large breed dog will chase them away. Preferably a dog that is a hunter.
