My daughters remote control to her tv started to smoke when she was using it this morning. She said she could hardly hold it in her hand it was so bad. She finally managed to throw it outside. Scary to say the least. Does anyone know what would cause this? The batteries were almost new.

There is a short in the remote, or there was a bad battery that shorted internally. A battery will get hot enought to start a fire if left unnoticed.

Try new batteries, but leave the remote outside for a few hours to see if it heats up again. If so, the remote is bad, if not it was the battery.

either the remote controller gone faulty or the batteries were no good.... try to get the battery maker to repair or replace the remote
