It's pre-algebra. HELP!!
She didn't teach us this stuff!

1. At the kolbus building, 3 out of every 7 employees use public transportation. There are 9,800 employees at the building. how many use public transportation?

2. The ratio of box seats at the ball park to general admission seats is 2 to 7. There are 2,500 box seats. How many general-admission seats are there?

3.Jacob delivered 90 circulars in 30 minutes. At this rate, how long will it take him to deliver 135 circulars?

4.At the airport, 4 planes land every 8 minutes. At this rate, how many planes will land in one hour?

I don't know what to do :{

1.No of employees using public transportation
=9800*3/7=4200
2. box seats:general seats
=2:7
No of box seats=2500
Therefore general seats
=(2500/2)*7
=8750
3.ket us assume that he will take x minutes to deliver 135 circulars
30:90=x:135
90x=135*30[by cross-multiplication]
x=135*30/90
=45 minutes
4.Let the no of planes landing in 1 hour or 60 minutes be x
Therefore,
4:8=x:60
8x=4*60 [by cross-multiplication]
x=4*60/8=30
Ans- 30 planes

1. seems very strait forward. Multiply 3/7 by 9800 so 3/7*9800/1 which is 29400/7=4200 people use public transportation

2. seems very strait forward. So first see what it is so so if there are 2500 box seats, first divide the amount of box seats by 2 so 2500/2=1250. Then multiply the 1250 by 7 which is the other end of the ratio for general admission seats which is 8750 general admission seats.

3. seems very strait forward. First reduce it. He delivers a 45 circular ever 15 minutes. I'm going to take the short cut, so he gets 90 circulars in 30 minutes. 45+90=135. so he delivers 135 circulars in 45 minutes

4. seems very strait forward. So make it an easy number that goes into 60. So 1 plane lands every 2 minutes. there are 60 minutes in a hour so 60/2=30. 30 planes land in an hour.

Sit down and reason your way through each of these in words. For the first one I'd figure out how many groups of seven people there are in 9800 employees, and then multiply that by three.

The second one is very similar.

For the third figure out how many times bigger 135 is than 90. The time required will increase by that same factor.

For the last one think about how many intervals of 8 minutes fit into one hour. That factor multiples the 4 planes per each 8 minute interval to get the number of planes per hour.

9800*3/7 =4.200 users
box/general = 2/7 so general =7/2* box =8750
time= 30*135/90=45min
planes = 4*60/8 =30

What do you mean "She didn't teach us."?
You didn't learn, to think for yourself & reason.
1) Divide 9800 by 7 & multiply by 3.
2) Divide 2500 by 7 but multiply by 5.
3) Divide 90 by 30, gives 3 per minute.
Then divide 135 by 3 for number of minutes.
4) Divide 8 by 4, gives 2 minutes per plane,
divide 60 minutes by 2, for 30 per hour.

2.

2500 * 7/2 = 8750
on calculator type 7 / 2 =. then type *. then type 2500 =.

3.

135 / (90/30) = 45
on calculator type 90 / 30 =. note the answer is 3. then type 135 / 3 =.

4.

60 * 4/8 = 30
on calculator type 4 / 8 =. note the answer is 0.5. then type 60 * 0.5 =

1. (3/7)*9800=4200
2. 7/2=x/2500
x=(7/2)*2500=8750
3. 30/90=1/3
1/3=x/135
x=(1/3)*135=45
4. 4/8=1/2
1/2=x/60
x=(1/2)*60=30

The solution will lie in a ratio comparing the two sets of information. One way to work with ratios is to set up equivalent fractions with the given information; a/b=c/d
Try to "translate" the given information; what does 3 out of 7 mean mathematically/in numbers? Once you have this information compare this known set to the values of the whole building using equivalent fractions. This will work with all problems. Hope this helps!
