does anyone know what this sonnet means?

Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed,
The dear repose for limbs with travel tired;
But then begins a journey in my head
To work my mind, when body's work's expired:
For then my thoughts--from far where I abide--
Intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee,
And keep my drooping eyelids open wide,
Looking on darkness which the blind do see:
Save that my soul's imaginary sight
Presents thy shadow to my sightless view,
Which, like a jewel hung in ghastly night,
Makes black night beauteous, and her old face new.
Lo! thus, by day my limbs, by night my mind,
For thee, and for myself, no quiet find.

Some critics have argued that Marijuana fuelled Shakespeare's genius and they often cite this sonnet as evidence to bolster their position.

Well, I can't write your essay for you, but I can give you some tips.

Read through the poem slowly, then go back and look at it line by line. Figure out the meaning of words you don't know, or alternate meanings to ones you think you do. Many volumes of Shakespeare's work will provide footnotes with definitions or explanations, which can be very helpful.

I wouldn't say there is one simple meaning to it, but it is definitely a poem worth exploring. If you are a person who has trouble with Shakespearian dialect, try to put it into simpler terms - once again, work through it line by line.

there are references to certain black lady when u go on reading about shakeapeare.there was this mysterious lady whom he would always refer to....in this poem though he expresses his mental and bodily drudgery in the persuit of the said lady.he says that my limbs are tired and now when i intend to relax a bit through sleep ,your thoughts come haunting and dont let me sleep, they just dont let my mind relax...that is this affection (or what one may call it )is taking a toll on the poet`s mental and physical health...though these complain would noit be as real as one may think...its just a general indication toward how tiring love is...how it troubles the beholder
remeber onething poetry is something about which nothing can be ultimate...it is always open to different interpretations...i think u can add some more to elongate ur essay.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
