Let x be the number of tens he has
Then the number of twenties he has is also x

From the problem we have that:
10x + 20x + 147 = 1167
Solve for x:
30x = 1020
x = 34

So he has 34 tens and 34 twenties.

n$10.00 + n$20.00 + $147.00 = $1167.00
=> n$(10 + 20) = $1167 -- $147
=> n$30 = $1020
=> n = $1020/$30 = 34
so 34 tens and 34 twentys.
verify it : 34*10 + 34*20 + 147 = 340 + 680 + 147 = 1167
