Okay, me and my fiance were talking about people having sex while the female is on her period. (It came up in conversation b/c we're getting married and I'm probably going to start close to my wedding.) Anyway, he said something about he's heard that since your egg is being released, if it's fertilized while it's being released then the baby can grow in the wrong part of your body and cause complications. I just figured if it was in the process of being released then it wouldn't fertilize since it wouldn't be in the needed environment.

I don't think I'm a naive person, but I had never heard of this. Is this true or just an old wives tale? If feel like an 8th grader asking this. lol Thanks.

An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops outside a woman's uterus (womb). This happens when the fertilized egg from the ovary does not implant itself normally in the uterus. Instead, the egg develops somewhere else in the abdomen. The products of this conception are abnormal and cannot develop into fetuses.

The most common place that ectopic pregnancy occurs is in one of the fallopian tubes (a so-called tubal pregnancy). These are the tubes that transport the egg from the ovary to the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies also can be found on the outside of the uterus, on the ovaries, or attached to the bowel.

The most serious complication of an ectopic pregnancy is intra-abdominal hemorrhage (severe bleeding). In the case of a tubal pregnancy, for example, as the products of conception continue to grow in the fallopian tube, the tube expands and eventually ruptures. This can be very dangerous because a large artery runs on the outside of each fallopian tube. If the artery ruptures, you can bleed severely.

Ectopic pregnancy is usually found in the first 5-10 weeks of pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy is caused when a fertilized egg lodges in a fallopian tube instead of continuing its journey to the uterus, where it is supposed to implant. The egg gets stuck when a tube is damaged, scarred, or distorted.

It has absolutly nothing to do with when you have sex, it doesnt matter when the sperm feralizes the egg,,, the egg doesnt stop moving down in the right direction unless something is wrong like mentioned above.

good site about it down below

He's talking about a tubal pregnancy, which is when an egg doesn't get down to the uterus, it sticks for some reason in the tube after being released--and if there was sex and sperm did travel up the tube and found the egg there, the fertilized egg starts developing there.

It's a medical problem--the egg can't go to full term in that part of the body and requires an operation to take out. But having sex during your period will NOT cause this. It's something that happens to eggs sometimes. Rare, but it does happen. Sex isn't a factor in it other than the sperm are in your body going into the area. Since sperm live up to 3 days, they can make a lot of trips around the area they're in.

As for sex while you're on your period, it's very messy. Some people like it, but most just wait.

Generally the "egg" is released about 14 days BEFORE the first day of your next period, so when you have your period is generally when you are least likely to conceive, in part because there's no egg, and in part because where the egg has to go to grow (implant) which is the uterine lining, is being shed, and its that which is your period.
So say that your cycle is 28 days, counting the first day of your period as day one, then you could conceive about days 13 - 15, if you had sex at that time, as both egg and sperm survive for a little while.
The reproductive system is a closed system and the only way the fertilized egg can be implanted anywhere else than in that system would be if you had an operation or a deep abdominal wound while carrying a fertilized egg.
An ectopic pregnancy occurs where the egg fails to travel down the Fallopian tubes and implants itself there. This is a dangerous condition, but has nothing to do with when you have sex, just the condition of the tubes.
Please if you are getting married soon, take the time to get to know the real "Facts of Life" so you can be better prepared for what lies ahead. A good place o start is with the Natural Birth Control sites. You don't have to follow their doctrines, but they will give you a lot of information on how and when you can conceive.

When a female ovulates an egg is released from the ovarian follicle and enters the fallopian tubes. A female ovulates about day 14 of her cycle. The egg then travels down the fallopian tube. If a female has sex during this three day period after ovulation there is a great chance that she will become pregnant.

A sperm fertilizes an egg in the fallopian tube. Upon fertilization your body releases a hormone to tell your uterus not to shed the lining. Then the fertilized eggs eventually enters the uterus where it plants into the blood rich uterine wall.

If fertilization does not take place the uterus begins to shed the blood rich lining. This is what happens when you have your period.

If you have sex during menses, there will be no egg to fertilize and you will not become pregnant. Although, it is not a 100% guarantee that you will not become pregnant. Sometimes the body releases an extra egg that can become fertilized.

Any time you have sex, even on birth control, you can get pregnant. Being on your period won't increase the chance of the egg trying to implant in another part of the body. The egg can be fertilized no matter what time of the month it is. Yes, there are women out there who have gotten pregnant while on their period.

I think we would hear more about this kind of thing happening if it were true. Since I consider myself fairly well-versed in female health, I don't buy it.

Do you want to have babies immediately? If not, then get on the pill, skip the neutral pills and you won't have a period at all on your honeymoon!

Congratulations!

merely as risk-free as having intercourse the different time of the month. you nevertheless have a similar risk of having pregnant or getting an STD, and you could stain the sheets too. merely take each and all the precautions you may use on the different time of the month, and lie on a towel.
