I always have this problem. My doctor used pitocin the first time and cytotec (sp?) the second time. YOu are probably having BH contractions you just don't realize it. I thought FOREVER it was just my baby balling up or pushing against my stomach but it was really contractions. Don't worry, they will get the little one out one way or another :) Good luck and sorry you are having to go past your due date!!!

I am somewhat in the same predicament. I am 39 wks. I went to the hospital with what I thought was the real thing. I am 80% effaced but have been 2 centimeters for a few weeks now. I asked her about pitocin, and my obgyn says that will just give me contractions for hours and it doesn't help with the dilation. I know it's uncomfortable, but try to wait a bit more. Maybe after another week or so if you don't dialate, she will give you the option of a c section. Take Care and Good Luck.

No that happens to a few woman. They usually give you something (or do something) to soften your cervix so that it starts to dialate, they may induce you with some medication as well. Although this is up to you and your doctor. Don't worry about it, pretty soon you will have that cute little bundle of joy in your arms. Congratulations and good luck!!!

Cervidel.
KLD is talking about pitocin. You dont want that, it causes contractions but doesnt open the cervix. So you have monster delivery contractions that you cant breathe through, with baby who's being squished and deprived of oxygen and pushed into a solid cervix, instead of out the vagina.
Its stupid stuff, and its dangerous and shouldnt be used at all.

They give you pitosin... I'm sure I spelled that wrong but that's the stuff and it's awful for you, I read an earlier description that about sums it up. Though I don't know if it works on thinning the cirvex or not, I had to have it because my water broke but I was not in "going" into labor on my own. They were worried about infection setting in. It's something I would talk to my OBGYN about though.

no there isn't anything wrong with you, it just happens with some women your doctor will probably tell you to come in a few days for you to get induced and more then likely put it in your iv but sometimes they put it through the vagina depending on what is needed.

Just ask for a C-section. It's much nicer to not have stitches "down there" and it's over much faster.
