A really good way to get rid of ants without poisons or toxic chemicals is to use borate powder. This is a naturally-occurring mineral that is odorless and non-toxic to humans and pets. It is in the form of a fine white powder and can be obtained from many online sources, and it is quite inexpensive. Another form of borate is used in the laundry powder Borax.

Simply sprinkle the powder where you see the ants. Since it is not a poison, you won't see any instant results, and might not notice anything happening to them even after a week. They will track it back to their nest and share it with the other ants and by the end of the second week you should have no more ants. When they ingest it the borate messes up the enzymes in their gut and kills them.

Borate is also very good for fleas, termites, cockroaches, spiders, and a huge number of wood-boring insects and bugs, and also will kill fungus, mildew and mold. You can even dissolve it in warm water and spray it. Borate has been used as an insecticed/fungicide for over 50 years.
