Does it engage when the car is not running?
Could be the clutch cable. I would look for someone to tell you that-someone you can trust before dropping a new clutch in it. A cable costs about $20 and the work is usually less than $100.
Good luck

Clutches have finite lives. Driven properly they will fail 200-300,000 km. Driven improperly they will fail a lot sooner than this.
It is also possible that the clutch pedal cable has come disconnected. If you don't feel any resistance when you depress the pedal, this is probably your problem. If you feel near-normal resistance, then you probably need a clutch replacement.

Yep its the clutch that needs replacing/repairing but i don't know where PhotoJim is getting his clutches as they don't normally last more than 50 - 60,000 miles in my experience. Maybe I'm not driving right!

Blown clutch plate and/or pressure plate. If it was anything else, the clutch would always be engaged (and would not disengage.) Time to buy a new one.
Good luck!
