I'm as bad in geography.
If the United States health care ranks 47th, why do all the people around the world (who can afford it) fly here for delicate and most advanced treatments?

On a serious note...

One of the main problems that has our healthcare system so out of wack, is the fact that you can't turn on the tv without having 7 commercials for ***** medicine in the first 5 minutes... If it's not that it's something else... So, who pays for that? you and I...

We are an over medicated society, from a pill to make a kid mind, back in the day, the spanking was free. To lord knows what.

If we are 47th, which is hard to believe... Canada must be 48th, because they send all the high risk pregnancies here, because they can't handle it. A wonderful statement for universal health care.

Health care is very expensive in the US for those who can afford it in terms of Doctors' and hospital billings as well as insurance premiums. At its best, the quality is excellent which is why rich people from overseas come to the US for treatment. Unfortunately many ordinary Americans do not have health insurance and cannot access adequate health care which is why the US always ranks low in the international league tables of overall healthcare quality .

What exactly do you mean by paying less? Some countries around the world most of their people recieve NO healthcare. It is because America is free isn't it, with our freedoms we have our downsides and upsides, freedom is great, but it causes the Insurance companies to be allowed to charge so high to maximize profit, so that those individual people can live their own "American dream" - It is at the cost of other Americans and those Insurance companies should rethink their values.
However, everything is not black and white, everything is not anti this and pro that, and socialized medicine doesn't seem to be any better answer than what we have now. Fact is; people get sick, people suffer, people die, and this isn't LaLa Land... its reality.

Well, I can pretty much guarantee you they won't be coming here to have babies, what with our infant mortality rates! And if you check it out, you'll find that most of our "latest" equipment and treatment was done several years ago by the Japanese. Rich people come here because they can afford the cost of our best treatment, which is excellent as long as you're rich. You won't find the average citizen of the world coming here for treatment. they can't afford it any more than most of us can.

Go ahead and thumbs down, but it's the truth!

It's expensive because tort lawyers like John Edwards brought so many frivilous malpractice suits, driving up the cost of insurance so much that many doctors are getting out of the business. As far as ranking 47th, it's simply not true. If people thought our health care was so bad they wouldn't leave their own countries to obtain health care in the US.

the ranking is probably not on the quality of care or expertise, but the quality of availability or accessibility to the citizens here. It's too friggin' expensive here because people go to med school not to help people, but to fatten themselves!

I question ranking as to what criteria did they use and the organization conducting it. As to where the money goes, unions, insurance companies and lawyers.

You pay for what you get.
You can go to Mexico where health care is less expensive and the treatment is substandard, like most countries with less expensive health care.
