my mother gave me the hot chocolate milk with the red top,and she gave my younger brother the cold strawberry milk with the red top which is what they give kids in daycares.

How old is your baby? Until a year only breastmilk or formula is acceptable.
After that the best choice is plain whole cow's milk. I wouldn't go for the sugared milks. Hold off on introducing junk as long as you can for the health of your child.

Infants to 2 years of age : Breast milk is the best possible milk for them.

At 1 year they can be introduced to whole cows milk, unless there is an allergy. If there is an allergy then rice or almond milk is a suitable alternative(the jury is still out on soy, not too secure in the benefit/risk factor). If the child is still breastfeeding, then a milk alternative is not necessary.

After 2 years you can switch to 2% or less cows milk.

Don't use chocolate or strawberry flavored milks. Your child really does not need to be introduced to that junk, too much sugar. Plain, unsweetened is best.

Hot chocolate for a baby??? I think not. Once the baby is on whole milk, some flavored milk is OK every once in a while, not often. They get used to the flavor and refuse to drink regular milk.

If you are talking about a newborn baby though 12 months, I believe the very best milk is mother's milk. Breast feeding has all kinds of benefits for your little one. They even say breast fed babies have a higher IQ. For babies a little older talk to your pediatrician to find out what would be a good formula to give your little one. Toddlers should not have too much sugar since it makes them more prone to develop tooth decay and bottle mouth. Make sure you are cleaning their teeth when they cut them every day. Clean gently with a soft baby toothbrush or clean wash cloth. Do not give babies toothpaste with fluoride. It could make them sick.

For pity's sake don't give any child either of those. Just plain milk, no sweetening added. I don't even let my 11-year-old drink that rubbish.

Infants need unsweetened regular whole milk when they are done with formula...

But a taste of either wont hurt anything. My 10 month old enjoys a sippy of ovaltine once in a while.

They should have plain whole milk. If you get them drinking the sweet stuff they will never drink it regular.
