I am considreing going down to austin texas and san antonio in late december and early january. i have considered spending the new years eve there, and maybe that woudl be fun. but i have never travlled alone anywhere, except to study abroad in spain, which was different, cause we were in a group and had activities prescribed for us to do. i woudl plan this vacation all alone and be with no one except if i coudl meet someone there. do you think its worth doing? and to austin?

Why not??! Travelling on your own is great, you get to enjoy your own company and prove your independence and that you can rely on yourself. Plenty of people do it, so you will be fine. I have never been to Austin, so can't comment on that area, but if you look up their tourist info site on the net, or borrow a tourist guide book from your local library they should mention plenty of things to see and do. No-one will think anything of you being on your own, they probably admire you for being brave! Take a good book so you have that in your spare time, or if you want to stop for coffee or a meal, but I am sure you will meet people along the way to chat with. And being on your own means you can plan your time and do everything you want to do! Enjoy yourself and good on you!~

I have travelled alone many times. The only downside is that it can be expensive and common sense is of course vital (avoid seedy places, that kind of thing). It's fun though.
Never been to Texas, sorry.
