He was hired when Jay Leno started and Johnny Carson retired (1990?). Jay's "band leader" was Brandford Marsales (sp?), a sax player who was well known for his Jazz. Kevin was in the band. Brandford got tired to the Tonight Show band and left. When he left, Kevin took over as the leader.

Jay, unlike Johnny, didn't have a "side kick" like Ed McMahn. He liked to talk to the band leader. I don't think Branford really liked this much, but Kevin seems to.
