i'm a 14 year old boy and i'm a freshman in high school. my parents are really getting me mad. i know that they mean well and everything, but they don't understand that at my age, they can't control everything i do. they'll tell me to go to bed at like 9:00 and if i don't come upstairs then they'll take out the cable. most kids my age go to bed at 10:30-12:00 (i don't go to bed at 9:00 but that's when my parents ask me to go to bed). they think that they can control what i watch on tv also (it's not that i watch anything inappropriate). they say that i watch too much professional sports because i watch baseball, football, and basketball. my argument is that i have gotten good grades, and if i can get my work done by 7:00, i should be able to watch games that start at 7:30. i do watch a lot of sports, but it's a hobby of mine, and i think it's my choice if i want to watch it or not. i watch a lot of sports, but when i do, they always yell at me for watching too much. i asked them if i could play basketball for my city (not for my school) and the practices are once a week and games are once a week. they say that if i do this, i will never be able to watch sports until basketball season is over. so many people play and watch sports and keep their grades up, and their parents don't give them hell about it! what do i do? i really want to be able to watch and play sports! they can't control everything i do!

Hello there, Actually at 14 years old your parents are doing exactly what they are suppose to be doing. More so, if you are in high school at 14, that's good, you might want to try and keep your grades excellent, it will help you in the long run. Remember, you are not most kids, you are their child/kid. Maybe if you can show them you are responsible enough at age 14, maybe they well let you play sports, you have to earn their trust and show them you can be responsible in everything you do. There are a lot of obstacles to prevent you from progressing, I'm sure they only want the best for you. Remember while you are there in their house you must follow the rules, when you're old enough to be on your own, then you can go to bed when you want, that's the fun part of being an adult.

Get a task after which avoid wasting cash and transfer out. When you're 18 you'll inform them to shove it. They legally haven't any say in what you wish to do. If you're in university cross reside in a dorm. That will eliminate them for a at the same time. Then you'll take medicinal drugs and binge drink. You will have intercourse with each lady you wish. Most men who have been saved from doing whatever mostly cross berserk the primary time they've a few freedom. I did. Just do not get addicted to medicinal drugs or alcohol. So lots of my peers are non drinkers and can not revel in a exceptional bottle of best wine or cross to a wine tasting on the grounds that they grew to be alcoholics. Then the ex druggies are all tremendous time proper wing Christians who're demanding as Hell. Had they performed matters proper they might no longer be so obsessed buying and selling one crutch for a further. Try to be balanced have amusing however play it risk-free do not over do matters. It's no longer valued at it. Be shrewd and get a ardour to create whatever that concerns. That's what makes a man like Bill Gates who he's at present.

Sounds like they ARE controlling everything you do sonny.
I have a few questions though,
1.Except for entertain you with athletic ability what has ANY of the athletes you admire done for you?
2.Is being a grade A number 1 athlete required for being a decent human being?
3.name a sports record at least 100 yrs old that hasnt been broken or equaled.
Nothing wrong with wanting to play sports they are fun. However dont go nuts over them. They are just games.

Sorry to ruin your day, but they do control everything for you. At least until you're 18. I was the same as you. bed at 9:00 no tv, aim or anything like that. You'll get through it.
Have you ever explain the reasons you believe you should get to do these things? If not, do it. Ask them ((politely) why they don't want you to do these things. Hope it works out for ya.

Well, you are a minor, and you live with them so they do technically control you (please don't think I'm a preachy adult, I'm 13). But I think that they are being unfair because you are growing up and you need more priveladges (sp) and you are learning to be a mature and responsible adult. You should show them how mature you are by sitting down with them and telling them how you feel. Maybe you can comprimise, or come up with something such as if you get anything lower than C on a report card/progress report, you get something taken away (cable, later bedtime, etc) until you bring your grades up. Good luck, because I know what a pain it can be to live with parents who want to completely control you forever. If nothing works, don't worry because in just 4 short years, you will be off in college and then you won't have to live with them anymore!

Unfortunately, if your a minor living under your parents' roof, then they have the right to tell you what to do. Hey, I don't like it either, (I'm 13) but what can you do? Why don't you sit down with your parents and have a conversation with them (at the right place and time) and make some compromises. I don't think that their being overprotective, but it is a little on the controlling side. Again, they do have the right to do that, but they could afford to loosen up a little bit on you if all that you said is true. Hope this helps!

I'll be 14 in a month.
My parents aren't really too controlling with me.
Yeah, sure, they tell me to be in bed my 10:30 && are a little over protective with my computer. I know they love me, and yeah of course they can get on my nerves but I know that's just because they want the best for me. Good luck.

i wish i could sleep at 9.00pm too...
it's quite weird they yell at you! since you seems a have been nice kid always...
sometimes we thought it's the parents who are egoist and controlling over us. but we also have to think again and evaluating ourselves. such as: are we being too ignorant while watching tv? (exmpls: your mom call you but you don't even turn your head to her while watching tv) it gets on parents' nerves. really.
if you're sure you're not, maybe your parents are really antique~they prefer you to stay focused on academic skills because they believe there's no other way to be success~ even not the sports. my parents are also a lil antique. but they still let me to do sports, music, arts, as long as it's not the purpose of my life! luckily they arent my purpose, so i dont have to fight my parents.
what a waste of your hobby! what a waste!
