My mom always tell me its what he can afford. Besides its not the ring that should matter thats just an item. But if there love is true thats all that really matters.

If he wants to spend that much then that just means he can afford it. If not slap some sence to lower his cost.

Like the other person says its about 3 month. The real question is why would you do that. I think is stupid. The rock does not guarantees anything and is only good for the first few month of the relationship. After that is bussiness as usual. The idea is to impress other people. A diamond is really not all that valuable in the sense that they are not rare and that the price is high because its sale and distribution is controlled. Also, people see it as valuable. To me it is just a rock. Yes, a pretty rock but a rock never the less. I think it would be wiser to get a cheaper ring and save that money towards something more valuable like buying a house.

Like I was saying the ring does not guarantees anything. You could buy the biggest diamond and still have a failed marriage. It is the time and effort you put into the relationship not a stupid rock. That being said, it is a nice custome. But, don't buy into the hype created by jewlers. They are not after your happynes. They are after your money.

Hi. Yes, I've heard of this. The usual amount of money to spend here in the UK is 3 and a half month's salary.
Of course, this would vary greatly, depending on the salary earned by the individual, but as a rough average, the cost of a ring here would be £3000.

Although, the cost of the ring should not matter. Someone with $100 could buy a ring and give it with a deeper love than someone who could buy a $500000 and be out of that relationship a year later.

All that matters is that he loves you, and you love him, so good luck and God bless to both of you.

Yes, it is supposed to be three months salary but this is unattainable for many couples. However, remember that if he spends $3,000 and you actually do get married then his financial problems are now your financial problems. Some people are frivolous with their money so if you're not sure if your boyfriend can actually afford this, ask to talk to him about it because you may have to be the one that sets financial limits throughout the relationship. My fiance wanted to spend a lot more than I allowed him to, and its good that he didn't! We are both thankful for it now because we want to have money to spend on the actual wedding as well. And my ring is still BEAUTIFUL!

Congratulations!!

If that's what he wants to do-- that's great!
There was a promotion by a diamond company that you should spend a "certain" amount on a ring and that kinda took hold for alot of people.
Personally, its about the feelings and not the money, but I know I am unusual that way...

Three Grand??!! They are like twenty-five cents at the mall gumball machines. No sense in laying out that kind of duckets for something that may or may not last. If a woman thinks that you need to spend every last penny for a year to buy a ring, then she is going to be WAY too high maintenance for any man.
No offense, I'm sure you two will be very happy.

No there is no set amount and if he wnats to spend a bit on a ring he could go into a jewlery store and if he has desent credit or little to no credit he can get a jewlery credit card and pick the ring and just pay when thge bill comes.Thr ring price is up to the ring you want you can always get a simple ring and add to it later making the ring bigger and more carets/

I think he should spend what is reasonable to spend for his income and budget. It does not make sense to go into debt for a ring. I would rather have a good smaller diamond than a big cheap one. He can get a very nice one for $3000.00. Good luck to both of you. Oh, maybe you can go a pick one out and maybe the one you pick will be less expensive or maybe it will be more, but that way he will have an idea of what to get.

I have never heard of this, don't you just hate it when society puts a price on an item? AND how much we SHOULD pay for that item in order for it to be acceptable.

If i was to ever get engaged again, so long as it was done with great love and affection, i would acceot an onion ring!!! Ha ha.
