Thanks, I had a great time in Holland. The weather was a bit wet , and we had a force ten gale on the crossing back and I was sea sick! But I got all my Christmas presents, and then some, and brought back lots of flowers, took pictures of windmills, and saw Santa and his helpers. Drank gluwein (mulled wine) and went ice skating and it was great!

Something good ? On Friday went with brother and sister-in-law and husband to Zilli Fish in Brewer Street, for Rose's 100 birthday. My mother in law Rose, died in 1986, but if she hadn't, she'd have been 100. She was born on November 30th 1907 in Marshall Buildings, Soho, where Lex Garages are now (built in the early 30s) and right next door to the rather swanky Zilli Fish restaurant. So we booked a table for four by the window, with an excellent view of the Art Deco Lex Garage and Car Park, cracked open a bottle of bubbly and drank Rose's (now perfect) health. We had brought her birth certificate and some early photos, and we explained to the young Polish waiter why we wanted that table on that evening. We also explained that Rose's parents were immigrants from Poland too, but not sure if she believed us. Lovely meal, although expensive.

I'm half Dutch (how did you guess?) so am obliged to visit the Netherlands regularly. Did you go to Amsterdam ? It changes yet remains the same, I still recognise the city I knew as a child. I don't suppose your birthday was the 30th ? I don't suppose you were 100, either :)

EDIT!!!!
Shan (or somebody) please would you answer my question about dotmac, so I can give you best answer ? Otherwise I have to give it to the only person who "answered" but such a stupid answer, I resent handing him the 10 points ! They are there waiting for whoever else answers !

Happy birthday Shan ! I'm glad you had a good break. I'm the same as you....I went to visit my daughter for a week, and came back to find all these grumpy posts on YA.....gosh its Christmas and I'd have expected some cheer on here !

I had a lovely weekend - I went back to work and all was well with my dear old residents. We went to the movies and saw "Elizabeth the Golden Age" which we loved. And we visited my friend who is ill, but she was in good spirits so that was a heart warming time.

Thanks for reminding me that I've got a lot of nice things going on in my life !

Don't let's get all miserable? Are you John Flansburgh or John Linnell in disguise?
Well, this weekend I called my friend Doctor Worm and I put my hand inside the puppet head (FUN!) in New York City. I bought The Mesopotamians new album and a book by Ana Ng but when i walked out of the store, some crazy bastard tried to hit me! They got lost though. And me and my friend and his racist friend all saw the new experimental film "The Spine" and I must say I'm impressed. I also went to a museum of history where I learned about James K. Polk and James Ensor's time, the 19th century. It was funny because I also saw someone wearing a purple toupee downtown because summer brings him down. But monday, it's back to books and minimum waging...HYAH!

Glad that you had such a good time, Shan...sounds like you found lots of good things at the markets. And that gluewein...it makes any day feel warm and sunny, no matter what the weather happens to be...lol! Maybe THAT'S what we all need here right now to pick the mood up..a good cup of wine and cheer!

Did you have a good birthday and do a lot of shopping in Holland ? I think the major snow storm we have endured overnight has a few people down. I know I had to plow my way to get to the garage for my shovel to dig us out this morning and after that it was covered in freezing rain. The mid -west states got it a lot worse than us in Ontario. Maisie and I think it was Min had a birthday too. Welcome back!!!

Hey Shan-welcome back! We went to Las Vegas and saw Spamalot and "Love", the Cirque de Soleil's Beatles' tribute. We drove, had a lovely trip and didn't bother with much gambling, but I won $120 dollars on Blackjack and walked away.

Happy Birthday Shan. And I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to Holland.

So, are you going to stay home for awhile, so I can stop being JEALOUS of you? What was it Brussels, New York and Holland all in the past four or five months?!

The holiday doldrums must have set in. We have been recovering from a snowstorm that left over 8 inches. Lots to shovel and bank up around the house this year. hohoho
