http://windows.uwaterloo.ca/Hardware/PC_Power_Consumption.htm
The total power consumption of a typical PC and monitor does not consume more than 175 Watts
of energy at its highest rate. At night time when your PC is “sleeping” it only consumes 35 Watts.
A typical SUV might have a HP of 250 with an efficiency of only 20%. Since 1 HP is equivalent to 746 watts. The power consumed is 186,500 Watts but the inefficiency
of a gas or diesel engine takes the carbon footprint higher.
It doesn't take an engineer to see that SUVs have a substantially higher. In addition, SUVs consume
fossil fuels. Electric power might be greener if the source is hydroelectric. (such as we have in the Pacific Northwest in the United States). Unfortunately, many areas still rely on coal plants for electric power generation.
I cannot believe that the carbon cost of manufacture of a PC would be higher than an SUV. (I've seen both kinds of facilities.)
These pieces of misinformation are deliberately spread by special interests.

You pal is speaking tripe, desktops and each and all of the aspects are geared up to handle days of interest. The fan would be advantageous, no harm will come on your pc doing this.

I will, as soon as Al Gore, give up his plane, give up his SUV, and move to a smaller home that consumes less energy, BUT not a second before.

Yes they do. And everyone who truly cares about global warming will switch them off and never use them again. Who's with me? Al Gore? Anyone?
