It's just an expression, not an equation, so it can't be solved. x can take any value.

you cannot solve the expression unless it is an eq like
x^2+8x+7 = 0
then you factorize it
(x+7)(x+1)=0
x+7 = 0, x = -7 or x+1=0, x=-1

if you are solvign you need to find x
ifrst make it equal to zero
factor
x^2+8x+7=0
(x+7)(x+1) =0
now use the ZERO PROPERTY
(x+7) =0 or (x+1) =0

x=-7 or x=-1

(x + 7)(x + 1)
x= -7, -1 if set = to 0

I evil spoon is right and here is how it is done

x^2+8x+7
(x+7)(x+1)
x=-7 or x=-1
you have to factor out the formula

This is not an equation so there is nothing to solve. However, if you want the zeros, set this equal to zero, factor and solve for x:
(x + 1)(x + 7) = 0
x = -1, -7

this equation is not complete

for complete equation must write equal to

I assume your question is like this
x^2 + 8x+ 7 = 0
Now it is equation with second degree and one unknown
can be solved
(x+7)*(x+1)=0
x + 7 = 0
x = -7
x +1=0
x = -1
therefor x has two values they are
x = -7
x = -1

This has no equation sign, therefore we cannot solve for an unknown. As you have seen this "expression" can be factored. Expression is the technical word.
