f(x) = x^3

g(x) = tan x

f(g(x)) = ???

i think the answer is tan^3 x but it could be tan x ^ 3 or is that the wrong way to write it? thanks for any help

its (tanx)^3
so u can write it as tan^3(x)

Hi!

Here is the trick.

Take your outside function, and write it down, but leave a couple of parentheses and some space wherever X occurs....

f(x) = x^3
...becomes....
f(g(x)) = ( )^3

....and now write your g(x) function inside it....
f(g(x)) = (tan x ) ^3

Viola!

its tan^3(x)
because you are substituting tanx as the value for f(x)

g(f(x)) would be tan(x^3)

that means you take the g(x) and insert it into x for f(x)

so it will be tanx^3
