Aaaw you're a good girlfriend.
GUITAR GIFTS: Gift card to guitar center, guitar stand, CDs, A chord book/guide, new guitar strap. Check out craigslist for anything large, a college guy isn't going to care if it's used.
MISC GENERIC GIFTS: watch, a nice wallet, cologne, shoes (my best friend personalizes a pair of nike shocks every year for her husband's birthday - that's the only reason I thought of it). Just be careful in this dept. You have to know your boyfriend very pretty well. Men are like raisens, no two have the same taste and they are all peculiar.
SPORTS: is he a HUGE [packers, huskers, yankees, OU etc.] fan? Buy him a good league-sponsered hat, beenie, cooler, bean bag chair (he's in college it's okay), etc. He'll love it.
FAST THINGS: Rent ATV, skidos, go snowboarding etc for a day... anything fast that you'd be willing to do with him (if it's not too cold, guys love that). You may want to double check the age limitations. For some you have to be 21.
ENTERTAINMENT: He's in college which means he's going to be poor and, at times, bored. Concert tickets, home theatre equipment (it doesn't have to be expensive... it actually shouldn't be as it's probably going into an apt/dorm. Walmart has $65 sound systems that'll be perfect-o), DVDs, video games, etc... all are just great!
Try to be creative!!! Good luck!

Well, I actually did something really little because I was soooo clueless too. I made these little cakes about 2x3 inches and put frosting on top. I made 3 cakes and put pink frosting on one, green frosting on another, and blue frosting on the last one. One was carrot cake, one was chocokate and one just the classic vanilla cake. Then I just used some cookie cutters to make an outline of a shape on the frosting snd put some chocolate powder on them. Souns hard, I know, but it's just three little cakes. If you're not allowed to cook in the house, ask a parent to help you. As for the packaging, I put the cakes on colorful foil and put it inside a cute little box. Hope this helped!

Well, guitars tend to be very expensive.... and i assume you are around the same age as him, and unless you are wealthy, you can't afford a modern guitar. I suggest buying him something fashionable, like good clothes or a watch or a necklace that has something to do with a guitar.... check out Abercrombie and Fitch, Express, Holister.... check out their graphic and humor T's you just might find something pertaining to a guitar or a band or something. Check out jewelry stores for the watch, and inquire about watches that have a guitar theme or something.... for the necklace.... a nice gold chain with a guitar pendant would be nice.

What about some music so he can learn to play his favorite songs? Or maybe some concert tickets to see hsi favorite band. Something autographed by his favorite git player.
What else is he interested in? There is always something he could use and appreciate. Maybe a nice framed picture of the two of you as well.

Why not get him an Ipod Nano, and record a lot of songs onto it? Then, you've given him a useful gift that is also personalized.
He can always erase and re-record songs.
He may really admire the effort you put into this gift.
P.S. It might not hurt to put some romantic songs on that Nano. (wink, wink)

well if he has a song that he plays a lot that you absolutely love, then write lyrics to it! Let the lyrics explain what he means to you and when you see him, ask him to play the song and start singing it to him. it doesn't matter if you're a great singer, just do it! it'll melt his heart. and as a keepsake, write the lyrics and make it creative like in a picture slideshow or someething. he'll love it. if he doesn't have a song you love, just ask him to record something special for you to listen to when he's away. he'll never figure out the surprise. besides, this doesn't even cost money...which makes it even more special. that's something no one else can give him.
