A friend of mine was going to see it but she told me that her and her mom looked up in the Internet what it was about and it was about killing God or something. You see they [and me too] are Christians and we dont see anything that is against God, so I really just want to know what its about and if it kills God and wins.

People are looking for evil where there isn't any. These are the same people who said that Harry Potter promotes Wicca (which every Wiccan will even tell you is untrue) and that playing rock records backwards will make Satanic messages play.

What they don't realize is that there is no such thing as bad press. These allegations are making it more likely that people who would not have otherwise seen this movie are going to see it, just to see what all the fuss is about! And, that includes Christians!

No, there is nothing evil in it. It is a fun fantasy movie for kids and adults. Should you use discretion in bringing your child? Sure, it could be a scary movie for a kid as there is alot of action. But, is it evil in intent? Absolutely and totally not.

People claim there are quotes out there, from the author, saying this book is about killing God. Well, until I see a videorecording of him saying that, or until I see this printed in the about-the-author or author's notes of one of his books, I will doubt that. It's not like it is impossible to MAKE UP a quote. I mean, look: "This book is about killing God" ~ A.A. Milne, on his Winnie the Pooh books. Yes, I just made that up, but if I were to make a website about A.A. Milne, make it look official, and say he said that, I bet some dummies would believe it!

CANNES–Chris Weitz is the first to admit that going from teen sex with apple pies to a cosmic battle between good and evil seems like an impossible stretch.

But the writer/director of The Golden Compass (opening Friday), the movie made from the first novel in author Philip Pullman's controversial children's book trilogy His Dark Materials, insists that his debut nearly a decade ago with American Pie was completely serendipitous.

"Well, it's not like it's any child's dream to make a sex comedy," said the New York-born Weitz, speaking in May at the Cannes Film Festival. "It just was a great script that I really enjoyed and my brother (Paul, who co-directed) and I thought that we could do well.

"Nor was I thinking, `Oh, one day, when I really get my chance, I'm going to direct this huge, costly epic.' It just kind of happens that way. I loved Pullman's books. And that's what got me to this place."

Weitz, a boyish 38, was being modest. He strenuously sought the job of helming The Golden Compass, which stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig in the tale of an English schoolgirl's fight to save the world, even though he has considered giving up directing altogether. That's how much Weitz loves the trilogy; he said the books changed his life. He's more than happy to join the debate about the atheist Pullman's contentious views –"My books are about killing God," the author told the Sydney Morning Herald.

It is NOT about killing god. God is not in the books at all. Metatron is a baddy, and he is posing as god and being less than great. The books are about trying to defeat him and overthrough the Magisterium (which is the Catholic church, more or less). If you are very Catholic, you may be VERY offended. But what you've heard is incorrect. They are not about killing god, so please stop quoting that stupid interview with Pullman.

Sigh...it's just another controversy...just like "If you see Harry Potter, you'll become a witch". It's all bull. Don't believe everything you hear. You would think they'd know Fantasy from Reality, you can't "Kill God" even if you tried.

if you believe people really have spirit animals that follow you around and attack other people animals. how silly. why would you be afraid of this. its totally fiction. sure they make the statement that god is just a word for control. but isnt this true in christianity? go see the movie and decide for yourself.

i dont really know, i am christian too, but how are you supposed to make a logical decision on how it hates god if you havent seen its entire content?

its like when harry potter came out our school banned it, and the pastor ssaid himself that he will never see it and has never seen it, so how does he know that it is ungodly? i really do not know how to answer your question, i will not come out against it or support it until i know for sure.

The writer of the books quoted that his books are meant to kill God. I would never go see it, nor would I ever suggest that anyone does. Also, the writer said that he hates the Chronicles of Narnia series, and C. S. Lewis.
