He may only need to burp at the end of his bottle instead of throughout it. If he doesn't burp, don't sweat it unless he's fussy. Your mom is wrong--it's an old wive's tale. Both are not viral--they are bacterial. He has to get the infection to get the illness. Laying down would be more likely to give him reflux or to choke on what he's drinking. If he doesn't have either problem, then don't worry about it!

If he doesnt burp right away then wait a couple of min and try again. He should be fine. Some babies will burp after feeding even before you get a chance to burp them. Just make sure you dont feed them while he is laying down. That can cause an ear infection. Good luck!

I have to agree with you. If he was having trouble and needing to burp he would be crying and fussing and spitting up a lot. He's content so I wouldn't look for problems. I never heard of this causing bronchitis or bronchopneumonia.

My daughter does the same thing. I was told to put gaviscon in her bottle to help. she has reflux and sometimes gets uncomfortable also when i burp her. I took a toothpick and made the hole bigger on the nipple and that seemed to help, she didn't have to work as hard to drink. I also let her decide when she needs to burp. she usually starts to fuss and throw her hands around when she needs to be . if i have a hard time getting her back on the bottle i sit her more upright and just wait until she takes it and settles in to finish off. I am using nestle good start formula and i would not change it for anything. good luck to you hope you find some answers that can help you

Babies swallow a lot of air when taking a bottle--and the breast too--so should be burped after-wards. If you don't, baby could vomit some of the milk while burping and aspirate (breathe it into his lungs) and get pneumonia or some other respiratory infection or problem. Or he might just fuss until he can burp. Yes, sometimes it is very difficult to burp the baby but keep trying until he does.
And some pneumonias are bacterial.

Perhaps you should try different burping techniques, my little girl burps better when she has time to let the milk settle a little like two minutes later, however my ped says if she is passing gas at the top or the bottom she is okay. Also you can find different techniques at whattoexpect.com because what works for one may not work for the other.

Feeding him lying down can sometimes lead to an ear infection, but both of my sons nursed lying down (we do both breast and bottle) and never had any infections. At 3 months your baby may not need to burp after every meal, he is getting better at eating and so he sucks less air.
There will be many things you and you mother will disagree about, try not to let it get to you.

Yeah, that shouldn't cause any problems at all! as far as the burping goes, try prompting your baby to a sitting position and lean him forward a bit while you pat his back to get a good burp- that position has worked for us since they one. Good luck! Mother of a 4.5 mo. old :)

I used to feed sometimes like that when I was really tired. Babies don't burp every time. Don't worry!
