I just got a rusty old 92 Ford Ranger XLT Pickup truck to drive in the winter. It is 2wd, 5-speed, 3.0V6, standard cab. I don't want to put much money into it, but I do need to use it to drive 30miles each way to work when it snows. They guy that I got it from said that he had the driveshaft fall off when he hit some train tracks. He put it back on and says that it is bent and causes vibrations at 60mph now. I haven't yet driven the truck, but is it ok to drive it like it is? I am just taking his word for it that the shaft is bent, it could be the u-joints or bad tires....not sure.

I didn't even pay a penny for the truck. I traded an old computer I had for 5 years for the truck.

You could call an auto salvage yard in your area to check on a price for a drive line for that truck. It should be cheap and it would be the best time to replace the U joints if neccessary. If the drive line fell off , it's reasonable to believe it was bent, and also it says the guy you bought it off of wasn't very good at keeping up on maintenance or repairs. Anyway, I hope this helped a bit.

I doubt the u-joints or tires are bent. I would take the vehicle to a reputable repair facility that does driveshaft work and have them check it out. Even if you need to replace it, at a shop parts and labor should be less than 500 bucks including new u joints

most likely the carrier bearing toasted (like they all do),

Getting a drive shaft reworked where I am, is about 200.00, and that includes the u-joints.

You might get a better deal froma salvage yard, You can drive it like it is, but I can assure you it won't get any better, it won't go away, and eventually, something will need to be done about it.

In Key On engine running, it rather is announcing that it may not handle idle (regularly idle became into as quickly as too severe for the vehicle) .. possible air leak? i've got obtrusive a pair of of those in my time and different than you won driveability issues.. I in maximum circumstances do not worry approximately it

I definately would have it removed and all points inspected.
Wow! A jolt hard enough to pull a driveline out! Wondering what else he broke. Motor mounts etc........Wow!
Rear spring center bolts sheared? Center support broken?
Twisted frame?
I don't think I would buy that one............
(Could be dangerous!)
