I loved the 80's - it was a great time for me - loved the music - great rock and pop - and still have good memories...
There is some good music around today - but definitely think the 80's was better.

Truthfully I grew up in the 80s and some of it I can't take at all (a lot of the pop on the radio that was too synth driven..and the reason why I didn't listen to top 40 radio for 10 years) even though the rock and country is great from that era and love it...but some of the pop even then I couldn't stand it.... maybe why I like today's music more when it comes to some gendres

I like 60's, 70's and 80's...but it's the 80's that captured my heart. Pop started going down the toilet by the mid nineties. Now most of what we are left with it hip-hop and rap, which I can't stand. All the current artists and their music sounds exactly the same. Whether it be the high pitched wails of the female hip-hoppers (sounds like fingernails across a blackboard to me) or the foul-lyrics of rap...none of carries the same emotion as the music from my youth.

Hands down, the 1980's. All of my favorite bands are from the 80's, and frankly, there is no music today. Every song of a particular genre nowadays, sounds like every other song of the same genre, as long as the singer's gender is also the same. Except for the White Stripes or classic bands or artists that are still performing, I can't distinguish one band from another.
When MTV hit the airwaves, that was pretty much the parasite digging in to kill music. It has since died and been replaced entirely by the corporate parasite doppelganger of music that thrives on teeny-bopper allowance and birthday money. When Nirvana came out with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the early 90's, there was a brief period where life seemed to be returning -- like a defibrillator, and there was a heartbeat... but it was a false alarm. The heartbeat turned out to be the infectious rhythm of the Macarena, and despite his success, or maybe because of it, Kurt Cobain was dead. Now we have Disney soldiers making the music.
