Does anyone know what heritage the White Elephant gift exchange is from, or what country it started in? I don't need to know the rules or anything, or what you got in it, just its heritage. Not trying to be rude or anything, so don't take it personally..... And does anyone know why its called "white elephant"?

it is an american game, but exactly where it originated, i have no idea.....

i think it started because people were trying to re-gift stuff they got that was bad. I would imagine somewhere along the line someone gave another person a ceramic white elephant they didnt like and that person re-gifted it to another.
