Most schools have early Jan deadlines for Fall 08 admission...that's why people are applying now. Your school will send a mid-year grade report which should include the first semester, right? If you are applying to a school with rolling admissions you could wait a bit more, but remember that you could be competing for fewer spots if you wait. Do you really think your cumulative GPA is going to change much after the first semester of your senior year?

I think it's best to apply as early as possible- usually between Sept and Dec 1, but it's okay to apply in the spring as well. If you apply after you graduate, you will lose an entire year of school. If you are going to do something like that, you might as well take a year or 2 of classes at a community college, and transfer.

Usually the deadlines are around January or February of the year that you're going to start college. I would apply nearer the beginning of your senior year. If your grades aren't good enough, they may ask you for an updated transcript before they tell you yes.

If you have any intention of attending college, the sooner you get the application in to the schools of your choice, the better your chance of being accepted. The number of high school seniors applying for college have increased dramatically over the years. Competition for spots is greater, caliber of student is smarter and qualifications are stricter.

i think it would be a bad idea for you to wait till next year. the colleges will want to know why you waited and what you were doing during that time. i suggest you apply asap because GPA isnt the only thing considered in the admissions proces.

They will see all your grades anyways. It might benefit you if they see that you have been making an effort to improve, but it won't make your past grades just disappear. Apply when you feel ready, not when everybody else is.
