The office psycopath exploits every weakness he or she can find, extols the virtues of the outwardly competent looking yet holds the knowledge of their incompetence like a sword of Damocles over their heads if his bidding is not done.

They would be intentionally deceptive for their own ends. Lots of people exploit the difference between appearance and reality at work. For instance, the illusion of competence keeps a lot of people in their jobs, whereas in reality nothing challenging has taken place, and many people pretend to work when they are actually goofing off. These may not be particularly admirable escapades, but they aren't necessarily the act of someone who has no conscience. Therefore, it's not true to say they "simply" do this. That statement is not a definition and does not capture their essence.

Do not let the office psychopath know anything about your personal life then, if there is a discrepancy that might keep you from working.
