In my particular region, police are famous for being arrogant and talking down to you. I guess they assume there is never payback. I happen to be in a profession where I am paid for jury service, and consequently I serve on a jury pretty much every year. For reasons that are not clear, most of the time I serve in a criminal case. And if the only evidence is the word of a cop, I vote not guilty. More then once, the jury is polled, and I am the only person to say not guilty. But I think 99% of the general public will just go along because they are programmed. I have an advanced degree and have never broken the law (except for traffic violations) in my life. If they want to change, then I will

By the way whenever you criticize the police, someone with an IQ of a bullfrog will say "Well, if you don't like police, don't call 911." That's a deal. Refund my money for police services, and stay out of my hair when I shoot the burglar.

I tend to agree with you and I don't a 25 letter degree after my name. All my degrees are from the University of Hard Knocks.

Almost every cop I have encountered is on some sort of a power trip and I wouldn't trust any of them with my back. In addition, I don't believe there is any cop in the country with a year of experience that has not abused his authority. To be frank with you, the only thing in my town that ever gets police protection is a cop's donut. You could probably rob the donut shop as long as you didn't get between a cop and his sugar high. All of them would much rather harass a senior citizen than face a 16 year old vandal, and never, I repeat never defend yourself or your property in my town. You will go to jail regardless of the circumstances. The attitude seems to be that the victim is the problem, if there was no victims there would be no crime.

One of our officers let a suspect steal his cruiser. The guy finally headed the wrong way on the freeway where he had a head on killing two senior citizens. The suspect was so high he didn't get hurt badly at all. That little fiasco cost us over a million dollars to settle. Our city is self insured.

I'll tell you though, the god like characters around here are parking and code enforcement. None of them rise to the standard of being a bad example.

OK, now I have had my say...

As much as I agree with your last sentence, I have to say; you are part of the problem. I'm not sure where you are from, but how do you get called for jury every year? I too, get paid by my job for service; and I haven't been called in 4 years. And automatically voting not guilty because a cop says guilty? In that statement alone, you chop away at the very basis of our legal system. With an advanced degree, I wouldn't think you need a lowly technician like me to tell you that. At what point did you develop the idea that you are better than a cop? To automatically assume a cop is a liar? What qualifies you to do so? Do you put your life on the line every day? How many actual criminals have you, personally, let loose onto the rest of us? It must be a very satisfying feeling; knowing you are always the smartest person in the room. I hope you sleep well in your ivory tower tonight. I also hope one of those poor oppressed souls you helped free breaks into it. Remember, you just renounced your desire for police protection. Pleasant dreams, professor.

What's your IQ? What you propose is social anarchy which has much worse ramifications than a few corrupt cops. Police are people too. They make mistakes. They have their own beliefs. They use questionable tactics to catch the bad guy. This is what they are trained to do.

While I can see your point to a degree....as I have personal experience of an officer giving false testimony (although in error, I believe, not malevolence) what you suggest insofar as not taking any police testimony as valid is prejudicial and you should not be in the position of power that you are...you are no better than the cops you assume are lying!

To assume that an entire system is corrupt you must entertain the fact that all systems are corrupt. People whose lives have been saved by cancer treatments may be fraud as we all know doctors will skew research results. Political polls about the war in Iraq are wrong because people will say what they think they are supposed to say. Sure these things happen...they are not the norm...we live in democracy where the majority (not the possibility) is the norm.

And yes...more of a rant than a question.

1. I agree, not a question, but a rant.

2. "But I think 99% of the general public will just go along because they are programmed." If you asked me, you're just as equally programmed, only on the other side of the fence. Especially if you're assuming most of the time that the cop is lying. Not all cops are liars, not all cops are corrupt. And if the only hard evidence they have is a cop's testimony, then take into consideration circumstantial evidence and character witnesses. Your decision to base your response of "not guilty" solely off of the testimony of a cop makes you no better/worse than a person who bases their decision of "guilty" off of the same testimony.

By the way... what's the payback?

So you vote not guilty on a criminal case. For it to be a criminal case and not a civil case, the crime that might have been committed is against a person that is bad enough to be considered an act against society. BUT......
Because you think the police are arrogant. You are willing to let a criminal go and a victim suffer so you can stick it to the police.
Did you send a memo to the police so they can know how your getting back at them?
Make sure you send copies to the victims of a crime. You seem smart enough to figure out which people are afraid to go back to work or in public, because their robber is out on the street so you can make a statement.
They will never have an advanced degree in common sense, sorry.

I don't think invalidating a possibly fabricated conviction once a year counts as much payback against stuff like being tased 25 times in 10 minutes. Police have the gun and they're allowed to use it and they know it. It all boils down to violence and they know they'll always win that fight. As a matter of fact, I'd watch my back if I were you. The cops might want a little payback for your fiddling around with their juries, and your advanced degree and totally-legal lifestyle are no shield against a bad cop.

Many of them do not understand what their job is. It's "To protect and defend the constitution". That is what they swore when they became cops.

When Americans get poorer and poorer from the Federal reserve devaluing the money, you'll start getting reformed militias in this country.

The cops aren't going to do much when 1500 organized citizens throw the cops out of town who all carry shotguns. And that will be in many many towns neighboring. The people will be able to call on neighbor militias.

Just wait.... Just wait.

As the recipient of police brutality, and subsequently, a settlement of a Federal 1981Act suit, it seems that the problem with the law enforcement is once they get a gun strapped on the ego automatically becomes super inflated. The qualifications are almost nil, there are no experience requirements, and then you enter a world where everyone covers everyone elses as ses. (got that past the censor!!!)
Yes, people are sheep, the direct result of public school educations. You can't change the world, so make your own reality.

Since you feel that the local police department is not doing their jobs correctly, then perhaps you should get in touch with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and tell them what you think is going on and ask them to investigate these issues.

If you don't strive to make your police force more friendly to the general populations, then you are not part of the solution but part of the problem.
