By regulations you can only have 8 minutes of commercials in any half hour time slot. But I think when it is an hour long show the producers can put that 16 minutes of commercials anywhere they want. I agree - TiVo is the way to go.

it's the sad truth :(

in France however you get 15 minutes worth of commercials at the end of every hour leaving the rest of the time open for free running shows :) a novel idea no?

appreaciate commercials for the suspense they bring to what ever you're watching

Commercials are how the networks make their big bucks to keep those shows you are watching going. They maybe annoying but as long as they are paying the bills they are not going anywhere anytime soon. You could use the time to grab a snack, or to go to the bathroom.

If you have Tivo you can record and fast forward past them.

Otherwise not much else you can to unless you want to just watch HBO or some other movie channel that has no commericals.
