I am about 10 weeks pregnant and I am having moderate discharge. Is that bad? What could be causing it?

I have no pain so I am praying that means it is normal.

no need to worry =) I've had the discharge issue since the beginning of my pregnancy and the doctor says it will prolly get heavier as the weeks go on. I def. recommend a panty liner =)

Discharge is a normal thing. If it's kind of milky they call that leukorrhea. It's a result of the hormone levels changing from the pregnancy and is no cause for concern. If it gets kind of clumpy or cheesy (sorry for the gross details ;) then that can be an indicator of yeast. If it's discolored or has a foul odor, that can be an indicator of other infections. These would need to be addressed- probably by your OB because some infections can harm baby.

Bloody discharge on the other hand is more of a concern. Bright red discharge would be indicative of bleeding and is something to have checked out. If you having cramping along with it, this is of particular concern as it may be indicative of abruption or miscarriage. Some spotting, usually darker (older) blood, is normal in the first trimester for some women. Also, if this is after a pelvic exam or sexual intercourse it may go away in a day or so. Typically more than just spotting needs to be addressed sooner.

When you are pregnant you are allowed to worry and so if in doubt, even for something small, call an advice nurse or your doctor's office and ask. Worst they will tell you is that it's normal or nothing to be concerned about. Advice nurses are typically available through local hospitals and can tell you if they think you should come in and there's one available all day and all night.

If in doubt, check it out. Can't hurt. Hope all is well. Good luck.

Discharge is normal unless it smells or you have pain. I would say call your doctor and have them check you out.
