I think it is perfectly normal to feel depressed during the holidays. It is a time we think of loved ones from the past and it can be stressful shopping and preparing and dealing family members.

To cheer myself up, I try to do things I really like. For example, sometimes I go ice skating by myself. Or I meet a friend for dinner, walk my dog, try to keep my mind occupied in other ways. I make lots of phone calls to people I haven't seen in a long time and just talk. That is great medicine.

Also, I pray. For me, it works. I'll pray for you.

Yes the holidays definitely make me feel ten times more depressed then what I normally get as it makes me reflect on certain aspects of my life that I probably more then likely wouldn't focus on otherwise. I usually like to get drunk as that's when I am happy. I know it's sad when that's the only time I can feel happy and even then I cry in my alcohol. The holidays are tough to bare.

A good way to cheer up is to focus your attention on others and not on yourself. Volunteer at your local Meals on Wheels or visit the nursing home to spend time with those who will be all alone for the holidays. There are all kinds of ways to help others and give your self-esteem a boost at the same time.

Definitely! I've been feeling depressed because my parents are dead and my family is struggling to make it this year, so the holidays for us is just a constant reminder of how much we've lost and don't have anymore, the only thing keeping me sane is God and my friends, if I had the funds to make myself happy I would probably buy gifts for me and my family n booze lol

Happy Holidays!

I usually buy myself gifts too, like the other person said.

I actually spend more on myself than everyone else.

But this year will be different, cuz i dont have any money. LOL
