She inspired the country and held it together. She did her best to steer a balanced course between Catholicism and Protestantism, kept a balance of power in Europe by never quite forming an alliance with either France or Spain, encouraged the arts (especially literature!), began English colonization of the New World (although the first PERMANENT English colony, Jamestown, wasn't established until the reign of her successor), and inspired her armed forces to repel the invasion of the Spanish Armada. The fact that she never married someow contributed to her ability to inspire her country to accomplish great things. If she hadn't regined, we probably wouldn't be who and where we are today.
