There are "should haves" and there are realities. Do we move forward in the world based on ideals or actualities?

Troll Shark: Women are more audible and men are very good at using that to their advantage. I ain't mad. I'm weak for words and I understand why someone would go that route to get to me...it is what it is.

Tracey: The majority of men agree that they are visual. Also, you can see that men who have the ability to score the most attractive women (the wealthy) often do so. It's just reality.

Troll Shark: Men crave to be with the most physically attractive woman. Women don't crave to get beat down on the bus.

Actualities, of course.
Who is we? As a biologist I am cognizant of the fact that ones looks are part of who one is. The disconnected conceptualizations of social science and the distinction between "not real" and " real " women that is part of the Oprah/Dove incoherence has nothing to do with the real world.
People use what they have and this is not always fair, but it is human nature that we ameliorate with our laws and institutions.
I see a answerer above saying that women would like to be seen for who they actually are. This incoherence is what I am talking about. Your outward appearance IS part of who you actually are.

A previous poster makes a very strong point. We are first biologically programmed and then culturally conditioned to specific ideas of beauty, and when faced with those ideals (which do vary from person to person, but not that much according to research data compiled by the BBC QED program a decade or so ago).
In short, we are all of us affected by appearances, and moreover, those fortunate to be "good looking" can hardly help their intrinsic desirability.
How people use their looks to their advantage is another matter - some people are obviously very cynical by the standards of a society that at least pays lip service to the idea that relationships are all about "love". Given that in most other respects we live in cultures where the individual reigns supreme, we should hardly be surprised when individuals use whatever advantages are at their disposal to win over others to acting in their best interests.
That said, I believe there are certain hopeful points. Wiser heads know only too well that pretty faces can act to manipulate on this basis, and friendship and community serve to stigmatize the worst such abusers. A pretty face can often too be a transitory thing. And furthermore those with pretty faces often fall for others whose faces as just as pretty and reap the karmic rewards (and chances for growth) that come with being done to as they have done to others.
Also, for those who have known many a pretty or handsome lover are far more immune to such manipulation because they know - a face is just a face. Even if it's a very nice face that would look good on a magazine cover. One strong reason of advocating a diversity of experience is it does provide perspectives of how different people behave.
These days I see many pretty flowers in the fields, but I'd rather leave them where they are. At heart I am a tree hugger. I like something substantial and a beauty that is borne of good soil and strong years, which flowers and fruits in season, and shelters those beneath its bowers.
Gather ye roses while ye may.

The answer to your question is resentment that comes from personal insecurities (translation: grass is always greener on the other side). Many people live their lives without goals, plans for the future, simply getting by on a little work and a lot of BS... So, when one day they wake up and look around, they realize that everyone they knew had achieved a lot, while they were wasting their life away. Now, the lazy person would NEVER admit to himself or others that it was his own choice to lead his life the way he / she has. So they keep looking for the reasons why other people succeeded in life, while they have not. Sad excuse really, because looks are a very insignificant part of what it takes to succeed: it is a hard work, goals and daily sacrifices among other things of any person with huge goals. But if the lazy and resentful individual knew that, he or she would be leading a happier life by now.

It is a scientific fact, and many studies have shown through the use of fMRI and PET scans that males use their visual cortex much more in assessing the attractiveness of a female.
Women JUDGE other women based on their attractiveness. The key word is JUDGE, not look at or assess. Their is a slight difference but it's intersting that you correctly answered your own question. Their is a difference between judging someone and looking at someone because they are attractive.

So, whatever traits/weaknesses men have can be exploited, but those of women are to be protected?
Can a woman ever go too far in using her looks to her advantage? If so, that's when we judge.
Lioness, men are generally stronger than women, but that doesn't mean we can wrestle a woman out of her seat on the bus because we feel like sitting down. Just something to think about...

Women are judged more on all moral issues than men are. For instance, it's okay for a man to be shallow, but not for a woman to take advantage of it. Double standard once again.

Women shouldn't have to use their looks to their advantage because they should be treated as equals within society, despite appearances. We still live within a patriarchal society, and this is evident if women have to persuade men by their appearances.

Many women would like to be seen more for who they actually are.
And as for judging those that don't, it's in human nature to judge. We're all judge mental to some extent.
Jon-my outward appearance IMO is a very small part of the whole picture. It's irrelevant to my personality, and my personality is what I would rather be judged on.
I don't consider appearance to be apart of who I am.

Because it's generally a red flag that the woman in question has nothing other than looks in her arsenal. It's also manipulative and reinforces unpleasant stereotypes...similar to a man flashing a black Amex card at a woman known to be materialistic. Are men so scatterbrained that they lose all brain power and judgment at the sight of an attractive woman?
