I argued with my lecturer who insisted that 1.0046 can only be 1.005 if the "4" was to be any odd number. I am confussed, help.

Hi,
Sorry, you lose. The rule is that if the digit after the one that you're rounding to is 5 or more, increase the rounded digit by 1. Doesn't make any difference if the rounded number is even or odd.
If the digit is 0,1,2, 3,4 drop it; if it's 5,6,7,8,9, add 1.
