who treat them like dirt, run out on them and expect things to be peachy when they decide to return?
What are these guys thinking? Or do they think at all?

Much like women, who do the same, they are in denial, they would rather lie to themselves, most often they have built a dependency rather than a relationship. And often it takes two, to ruin a relationship, if there really ever was one, as our definition of such, depends on the views of the individuals, and those views depend on ones rearing and beliefs. But many would rather wallow in misery, than be alone with it. I, on the other hand, believe that when left alone with your own misery, one at least has the time, space and chance to turn it into something else, rather than stockpile it on a daily basis. If find these to be ppl who "follow their heart" rather than use both heart and brains to survive.

I don't think this is exclusive to men. I'm kind of going through this right now but not really. My girl really did a bad thing to me. It's been a month now and we have not spoken but I have these fantasies that it was all a dream and she will walk through that door any time and everything will be the way it used to be. That has not happened and if she does contact me, I will have to be strong and tell her to go **** herself. That's the problem with people, they are weak but we have to be strong.

Same reason some women take men back who treat them like dirt, etc etc.

Two schools of thought on that.
1) They are men who, despite the circumstances they find themselves in, carry a deep sense that they will do what is right even if their partner/situation is wrong. (kind of a "death before dishonor" mindset).
2) They are too weak/afraid to do anything different. (kind of a "it's better to be miserable than alone" mindset).

Sometimes mean people are Sexy. They have such confidence and are really bossy because they know that they are all that.. If a guy has a low-self esteem, he might be drawn to a such a woman cuz he thinks he can't do better.
