He's not sick, this is completely normal. Ferrets change coats at the end of fall before winter and again at the end of spring before summer. Their coat gets thicker before winter and thinner before summer and some ferrets will not only change coats, but also change colors. They will also gain and lose weight during coat changes (gain before winter, lose before summer).
Here's one example of a ferret changing colors:

And another thing, if he was a kit when you got him, then that could also be why his coat is changing. I remember our last ferret was a medium brown color when we got him (he was only a couple months old) and four months later his hair started to get much darker. Kits can be born with one coat color, but it can change as they become an adult. But adults can change coat colors, too.

Winter coats are different than the summer ones (and when they shed out their guard hairs it seems to all happen in three days!!!). Normally they do change somewhat, this is normal. Plus they can darken up with age.
"Black" ferrets are sought after, getting a really dark one is good!
With the ferret club I was in, several people had to reclassify their ferret's 'color' each year because they were changing that significantly. So yes, it's common. He's not sick.

It's perfectly normal for ferrets to change colour each season with their new coats. It's left from when they were out in the wild :) Some members of the weasel family change from snow white to chocolate brown. Just sit back and enjoy your ferts "fashion show"

Ferrets often change colours. Can you post some before and after pics? Most of the colour changing I've seen has been getting lighter but I do have one now whose winter coat is a bit darker than she's looked for the past couple of years.

Your ferret is okay, nothing is wrong with him. It's because of the season change, they tend to change the color of their coat according to the season. So don't worry about it.

i dont think anything is wrong with him i think he is just changing colors, my ferret was white when i got her and she had a dark black streak going down her back, now the black is barely visible, and she has turned a goldish color and she is perfedtly healthy. i think you're gonna be fine
