CARACAS, Venezuela -- Under pressure from opponents of President Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's elections council has adopted safeguards for the country's electronic voting machines to prevent tampering in Sunday's election _ conditions so strict that experts say they surpass some standards in the United States.

Probably. There was a story in late Oct 2006 that a Venezuelan software company had programmed some of the voting machines in Chicago, so perhaps there is some synergy going on.

No, Chavez has no need to rig the election, he has the support of the poor majority, and they are satisfied with his policies so far.
The private companies that conduct some of the exit polls however, can report what they like without scrutiny.

Are you talking about the "Butter fly" ballot that the Democrats insisted on using? The one they protested against when they lost the election. Then asked for a recount, lost that one. Got another recount, and tried to get the Florida Supreme Court [who are all Democrats] to change the law by decree, even though the Chief Justice said it was unconstitutional?
Edit: I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You ment ELECTED right? If not...shame on you.

I suspect so and if the results are too close to call the recount will be done in Florida
I predict that the referendum will be defeated by a small margin

Are you talking about the 1st or the 2nd time that he won? In either case e-voting wasn't an issue. It's moot in any case as Chavez will soon declare himself President for life...

No. Venezuela has a more Democratically run government than the United States has had in decades.

No, unlike liberal voters, the Venezuelans are intelligent enough to use the traditional punch ballot without too much trouble
