My father works for his brother. My uncle is threatening to fire him if he doesn't sign over some land and if he doesn't take my uncle's cash payment "deal" for a family truck.

Yes, most employment is without a contract so you can be let go for no reason.

why wouldn't it be legal? do you think the police show up and say you can't fire this man? Even if was "illegal" do you or any you know have the resources to do something about it. It is extremely costly to fight a wrongful termination suit.

Does your father owe money to your uncle?
If it is a debt situation, he may be demanding his money back.
And yes, he can fire him. ANY employee can be fired.

definitely illegal. called signing a contract under 'duress'. means you have obviously been forced cause the deal is so clearly NOT to your benifit. having family have the upper hand sure is a b.itch !

I suppose so, but it sounds like things aren't all that amicable . He'd be happier elsewhere.
