This stuff exists. I heard of it on a radio fix up show. Forget the name.

I've never heard of a spray on sealer that can be removed easily, but I do use a caulk gun applied material that's called "Seal & Peel". It's applied with a caulking gun around the cracks of the windows, even at the point where the glass meets the frame, (on old wooden windows), and in the spring you cut it, pull one end and it comes right off. Should be available at home improvement or hardware stores.

what's incorrect with protecting tape? i take advantage of it after which pull it off quickly after the paint dries. It would not get a lot much less confusing than that. There are much extra huge tapes for added clumsy painters.
