Different groups have different beliefs and it is always in the nature of opposing groups to isolate the minority. Take the bubonic plague for example- the plague was "blamed" on the jews due to their minority status in largely Christian England.

Sadly, religion is, and has been, the cause of more death and strife over the ages than anything else. People all over the world have their own particular faiths which they believe are right to the detriment of all others. For example Muslims believe that all other faiths are wrong and evil and persecute followers accordingly. In Muslim countries there is no tolerance of other faiths and punishment for 'offending' them could be death. Jews do not believe that Christ was the son of God. The Christian faith is divided between catholics, who follow the silly papal rules, protestants who don't and Methodists who believe in rebirth and salvation. (They can't all be right). The Chinese follow Buddah and Confucius. There are many more. Most faiths indoctrinate their children at a very early age to follow their 'rules' and such people grow up with an implicit belief that they are 'right' and everyone else is 'wrong'. They die and kill for it as the many religious conflicts over the ages prove.

Remember though that ALL religions are man-made, each following a set of rules CREATED by men rather than the 'God' they profess to follow. I don't follow any religion. They're all bigoted and extreme and believe in fairy tales and nonsense to justify their own 'club'. I assume that, if there was a 'God' then he would not allow all these factions to exist and would, somehow, punish the unbelievers. I mean, what kind of a god would allow his created people to worship some other diety?

The world would be a better place and more tolerant without all this mumbo-jumbo and until someone can prove categorically thet there is a god, and to date no-one has, then I'll carry on in my own little atheistic world.

Because they tend to persecute others. Most religions believe only they are right and push their beliefs on those around them which leads to backlash
