Make sure it always has plenty of water. Plant food may help too.

Get a stand that is made for watering the tree and keep it full of fresh water. Non. chlorated drinking water like Music Mountain, Igloo, etc. is best.

Cutting a tree from it's roots is like cutting a person's head from their body. Result, instant death. Keeping it well watered may prolong the time it will remain green, but NOTHING will keep it 'Alive'. It's already dead.
