Private servers are against Blizzards TOS. If you have an active account with them you agree to this the first time you login after a patch. It is possible that your WoW account could be banned. If you have high level characters you may need to decide if its worth possibly losing them.

Here are places you can check out the rankings based on player votings. Some mix in other wow sites but by reading the banner you can usually tell which are servers.
