When you try to put in gear cold does the shifter really seem hard to move?If you answer yes to this question its a eazy fix.The shift cable needs lubed and adjusted at a chevy service dept. This cost is minor and your lumina will be good as new.We have had a bunch of problems with these cables. After the lube and adjust your trans should shift fine.Best of luck with you lumina.

it needs to go to a transmission shop you either have a bad shift solenoid in it or its in need of servicing really bad,one thing though if it continues to do this it will cost more to repair it than it would to have it done right now, good luck.
