This is horrible. This is a disaster!

Ok, I was working on editing several music sets, and recordings for this very large music company, and I was really feeling tired.

So I took a short nap, and left my MacBook Pro in sleep mode.

The next thing I knew, the fire detector was going off, and there was a lot of steam coming from my desk. Luckily, I stuffed my blanked over it, and smothered it.

Now my MacBook Pro has a melted keyboard, and it won't turn on. It appears that the hard drive is very damaged.

My stuff is suppose to be due tomorrow! And now my laptop is dead. This is a very important project, and to think it's all gone would be BAD.

What do I do now? Is there anything I can do before tomorrow?

@Tofu:

You know how much those can be? It's hard enough to spend studio budget on recording sessions, singers/bands needs, and events. Buying another Mac is a VERY low priority for this studio.

Like others said, go to the Apple store and see if they can fix it up. Better than nothing.

But good luck. I went to the local Apple store in my area before, and it was a LONG wait. There's a lot of people that seem to have problems with Apple products, namely, iPods.

But there's also problems with several Macs I guess, and it does take time. Maybe days.

I returned mines, and got a Sony Vaio instead. Best laptop ever. :)

Most likely your hard drive is still salvageable Your computer is history, but you may be able to recover your data from the hard drive! You will need another Mac, or a program to read a Mac HD on a windows based unit.

You (or a technician if you are not comfortable with working on hardware) will need to disassemble the remains of your laptop and remove the hard drive! Then the hard drive can me installed in another Mac, and most likely it will work. You can also install it as a slave drive in a PC, with an adapter, and try to read the data!

Good Luck,

Take it to the Apple Store and say "You know, if you don't give me one of the new Mac Book Pros, this could turn into a really bad PR deal for you guys."

Really though, take it to the Apple Store or a Mac tech and see if they can recover the data on the drive. Chances are that if the keyboard is melted, then the hard drive has failed and will be unrecoverable anyway, but it's worth a shot.

BTW, you really want the app I'm going to link you to, as the heat settings for any Mac laptop seem to be a little on the high side. I have a PowerBook G4 (also linked for the PBG4 and iBook G4 users) and a similar app to help keep it cool.

Take it to the nearest Mac store or ANY computer store and see if they can get the info on the hard drive. They may be able to salvage some, but some is better than nothing. I know how you feel about losing work, it happened to me too.

in accordance with what you're saying, that's somewhat in all likelihood the heating is brought about by utilising a quick in the two the plug or interior the socket on the computing gadget. you're able to end utilising the charger and characteristic it and the computing gadget appeared at by utilising AppleCare or Apple Tech help or despite the fact that is suited.

If you can remove the hard drive, you can put it in a caddy and attach it to another computer to read the data off it.

Here is a program you can use to read your hard drive from Windows if you do not have access to another Mac.
