ESPN.com just reported that the RED SOX have upped the offer to include Jacoby Ellsbury in the trade for Johan Santana but will remove Jon Lester from the deal : http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3138088

Earlier the same website said that the TWINS were not "impressed" with the Yankees offer including Hughes and if the RED SOX upped their offer it would most likely be a deal breaker in the SOX favor.
What does everyone think about it. I'd personally rather they include Buchholtz in the deal instead because I think that Ellsbury is the spark this team needed for the playoffs and willl help take them to another WS title in '08'.

"Stewie Griffin" Ellsbury overrated? I guess if your'e a big part of a team who wins a WORLD SERIES & are in serious contention to be the 1st ever player in MLB history to recieve a WS MVP award before you even have your rookie year could be construed as overrated, I guess. But not the case, in the least. But being so silly and brazen to make a statement like "Hughes will be better than Santana by 2009" is just sour grapes...and completly innacurate. The reality is that Hughes, if not for the offense of the Yankees, would at best be a #3 or solid #4 starting pitcher. Nothing he has done in his 13 ML starts suggests anything else. When he throws a no hitter like Clay Buchholtz did then I'll change my opinion of him, until then... he's just another could be.

AH, "Legends never die". A "no hitter" through the 7th inning, huh? Just like a real no-hitter only different I guess? I assume in your world because he made it into the 7th there was no way he would have given up a hit in the 8th or 9th? You are ridiculous. I repeat: WHEN, Hughes throws a no-hitter. Hasn't happened and considering who I'm talking about it most likely won't EVER!
If the Yankees seriously had the better deal than the SOX the deal would have been done by now. Geez, if anyone looks like a "newbie" I'd say it's the guy who doesn't understand a no-hitter consists of a game where a pitcher gave up no hits through 9 innings. Look it up, it's a fact, try google. Although facts are not really your strong suit. Skewed conjecture and half truths are really your strong suit. Keep it up, it's workin' for ya'.
BTW: I didn't block you like you blocked me because I enjoy your silly answers. Mainly because they're so convoluted I have a blast tearing you apart.

You say "when Hughes throws a no-hitter" FYI he was into the 7th inning w/ a no hitter in his 2nd start before injuring his hamstring. Just like Buchholtz. Once again - get your facts straight. Hughes is an ace in the making. Even if we don't get Santana I'm happy w/ keeping Hughes. He will be better than Santana in 3 years or so, and we will have him for his entire career, whereas Santana will be done in about 7. Long term or short term - either way the Yankees win. The Sox are only trying to raise the price for the Yankees. There isn't anyway they get Santana. Stop living in a fantasy land and stop acting like a baseball newbie.

PS - This is the 1st time I've agreed w/ Frizzer. He is usually misinformed, but he is right. The Yankee's offer is much better than the Sox. Melky is just as good as Ellsbury w/ a lot more proven experience and is farther along in his development. Hughes makes it a much better deal since the Sox won't include Buchholtz. It would take Ellsbury and Buchholtz to match the Melky, Hughes deal and the Sox just won't do it. Admit it... you've lost this one.

curiously, the pink Sox are truly on the ingredient of signing Santana. The Sox and Twins administration have sent one yet another scientific information of Santana and Lester returned and forth. As a Toronto resident and Blue Jay fan... i truly hate the two the pink Sox and Yanks. Haha. the full no earnings cap element is lame. anyhow, i think of the Yankees nevertheless have a brilliant gamble. there is not any way you are able to count quantity out a collection with A-Rod, Jeter, Abreu, Posada, Matsui, Damon, Giambi... even nonetheless their pitching is a touch suspect, having Wang, Mussina, Joba, and the 4-5 reliable possibilities remains very reliable; in basic terms not whilst in comparison with Boston. Then there remains the time left in the previous the season ends... Yankees seem in touch with each commerce rumor or unfastened agent signing... they nevertheless might get Dan Haren... Ben Sheets is on the block... same with Erik Bedard... and so on. Boston's pitching seems truly truly reliable, yet I nevertheless dont think of their offence is unquestionably that great. They did nicely final 12 months, yet i think of Lowell will come back off to earth, Drew'll nevertheless suck; in actuality, anybody yet Manny and enormous Papi might suck next 12 months. So Yankees do have a brilliant gamble... they seem to have a brilliant gamble each 12 months. optimistically, the Jays can carry out a little magnificent baseball and cope with the Sox and Yanks.

Twins should take Hughes and Cabrera and a prospect. All a team gets with Santana is a 1 year contract under market and POSSIBLY a contract extension. Ellsbury is overrated. Hughes stats of 2009 will exceed what Santana will put up in 2008, frankly, Yankees are offering too much.

yes, Ellsbury is overrated, look for 100 points to come off the BA next year while the HR will barely crack into double digits. Hughes minor league stats show hes the real deal.

Neither the Yankees nor Red Sox need Santana, given how they both outscored their opponents by 200 runs last year. Santana performance has declined over the past 3 years, more likely than not he'll be injured a significant part of a 6 year contract.

BTW, hitters BA against Santana: .225 and Hughes was .235. And Cabrera will put up better stats in 2008 than Ellsbury. But time will tell soon enough.

I wonder if the Sox are just trying to beat the Yankees rather than improving their baseball team. However, this should get Santana to the Sox.

I don't believe that Ellsbury or Lester will be enough for the Twins. Hughes and Cabrera seems to be a better deal that the Yankees are offering.

As a yankee fan, i want to see santana be dealt to the red sox, cuz i know red sox will bid lots. It would be good for both, but still. I dont want phil hughes or melky included cuz we have dealt our young folks too much, and obviously we can win without ALL of the big names. its prob 90% done if red sox up the offer to include ellsbury, unless yankees be stupid and up their offer as well.
