I'm thinking of having a "defining the relationship" talk with a guy. I don't want to go into the whole thing here, so I'm just asking a nice, general survey question. The defining the relationship convo: is it a good idea or a pain in the butt for all involved.

Depends.......do you want to define it as in "I love you and lets not see other people" or "ewww...let's not go there I only want to be friends". If you just want to be friends then talk. You don't want to give him the wrong idea,

I was recently out on a "second date" with a woman who thought we should discuss where our "relationship" was going and I realized immediately that (since there was no relationship after just two dates) we had to part company because it was not a "good match" in my opinion.
Maybe guys see things differently but unless you have been involved for some time, this is probably NOT a good idea.

You are going have to accept it if the person doesn't want to have the conversation or just breaks up with you. Hope it goes well for you.
