Yes I've heard of it and read some parts of it. I agree its a great read. I first heard of it when studying Mary Shelley's classic novel 'Frankenstein' which is a rewriting of Miltons famous epic. It begins with a quote from P.L. adam complaining: ' Did I request thee maker of my clay to mould me man, did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me' Notice the paralell between the Frankenstein monster and Milton's Adam. Anyone with a rebellious teenage son/daughter may also be able to relate :-)

I've read Paradise Lost at least a dozen times and I really love it.
John Milton was criticized in the first half of his poem for making Satan a heroic figure. The cry of Satan: "I'd rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven" is epic in the English language.
So John Milton in the second half of his poem villified Satan as a craven coward.

Yes, I have a copy of this book in my book collection. I read it when I was a kid and liked it. I cannot remember much of the book as it has been so long since I read it. The book was given to me by my mother. I think my copy is a reprint from the 1950's. I've seen several copies floating around for sale over the years. I believe this book is a classic. I'm glad your enjoying the book.

A definate classic, an epic poem - if you liked that, try Milton's 'Paradise Regained'. I have an edition containing both :)

Yeah, it's a really great poem. I haven't read the whole thing, but plan to this summer after I finish getting my BA.

is it not required reading in HS anymore? I was forced to read it in 10th grade, along w/ red badge of courage, moby dick, war and peace, dante's inferno, brave new world, catcher in the rye, 1984, farenheit, etc.
Nike: war and peace or pride and predjiduce are the most boring :)

It isn't a book. It's an epic poem, and though it is important to the world's literary history it is one of the most dreadfully boring pieces of literature I've ever had the displeasure of reading.
