My friend was involved with a stabbing, and the court told him he was under criminal investigation, what does that mean? And what could happen to him?

He was getting a sweatshirt out of his trunk and a guy that had threatened to kill him(and who had raped me) snuck up behind him and he grabbed his work snippers from the trunk, turned around and went for the closest thing possible...which was his leg but he's not sure. It was pretty close to his manhood.

Think "person of interest."

I think that under the circumstances your friend should immediately hire the best lawyer the combination of him, his entire family and you can afford.

No one should make any statements or answer any questions until so authorized by their lawyer. No one should consent to any DNA samples, or any searches until so authorized by their lawyer. This includes you too.

Don't allow him or you to try to resolve this yourself. The police are not there to help anyone, they are to arrest your friend, and assist in the prosecution. They are probably even thinking of how to charge you with some sort of conspiracy.

Simply put, he is a suspect and they are investigating him for possible charges to be filed against him. If they obtain enough evidence, he will be brought before a Grand Jury to determine if there is enough to indict him. After that, he will go to full court. He would probably need to post bond/bail or stay in jail while the trial was going on.

It means he was "involved" in a crime and the police have to investigate the stabbing and your friend's part in it. He could be charged if he did the stabbing or was an accessory.
