Most people don't like dealing with fractions so I suggest eliminating the denominators. To do this you multiply every term in the equation by the lowest common denominator. LCD of 2 and 4 is 4. So:
4*x/2 + 4*x/4 = 4*5 or 2x + x = 20
Now simplify:
3x = 20
Then Solve:
x = 20/3 or 6 2/3
